What type of residence hall is Payne Hall?

Payne Hall offers a variety of room styles from suites with common rooms to double suites with a shared bathroom to standard double residency rooms. For images and room details, visit the housing site.

Will the RLC be staying in Payne Hall?

In the fall of 2018, the RLC will transform into a Residential College model and move into a newly renovated O’Shaughnessy Hall. The size of the RLC will increase and the academic program will be modified to reflect opportunities for students to enhance their leadership studies through greater opportunities for research, community engagement, and study abroad.

Is every person in the residence hall part of the Residential Leadership Community?

Yes, we have first, second, and third-year students living in Payne. All upper division students in Payne serve in leadership roles in the community.  Additionally Resident Advisors may be second through fourth-year students.

What are the mandatory requirements of my student because he or she is part of the RLC?

RLC Students during their first year must be enrolled in the Fall and Spring linked coursework in the RLC (see course information).  RLC Students in their second year are required to serve in at least one peer leadership role which entails serving as a mentor for first year students. In addition second year students are invited to participate in additional LDRS courses and all students are encouraged to pursue the Leadership and Social Change minor.  A community agreement outlining standards of engagement and behavior is sent to all student who accept their offers to live in the RLC.

When will students be notified if she or he was accepted into the Residential Leadership Community?

Beginning in February or each year, applications will be read and applicants will be notified of the status of their application as applications are reviewed.
